Worldbuilding and Scientific Utopias: Interview with Studer/van den Berg
Artists Monica Studer and Christoph van den Berg speak with curator Boris Magrini about their works Wolfskind Projectand T.R.I.P. Transcendence for Real and Implicit Personalities. The works are part of a series involving the Woodhead Foundation of Digital Consciousness (FOWDIB), an institute which parodies scientific research. The artists discuss the narratives developed in their works, such as the encounter between an artificial intelligence and a group of hippies, or drug-induced expansion of consciousness of digital devices.
Self-Representation in Digital Space: Interview with Maria Guta
Artist Maria Guta speaks with curator Boris Magrini about her practice which lies between performance and media art. The artist creates multiple personalities that she embodies and puts on stage, for example on her Instagram account Dear_Lola_Lane, or by creating videos in which she parodies celebrities who are interviewed on YouTube, such as in her recent work The Soothsayings of Iris.She describes the inspirations that led her to create these characters, as well as the lockdown experience in Bucharest that inspired her to make the new video Dinner Party.
Computer Vision and Children’s Songs: Interview with Simone C Niquille
Artist Simone C Niquille speaks with curator Boris Magrini about her recent research which focuses mainly on the area of computer vision. Through videos created with software used for the training of artificial intelligences and robots – her works Homeschooland Sorting Song– the artist approaches this field of research in a playful way while raising important questions. What distinguishes the learning of robots from that of humans, and how can our daily lives be affected if robots capable of navigating their way around a domestic environment are increasingly in use in the future? The artist answers these questions, and also talks about her experience of working with children for the voice-overs of her videos.
